BREXIT

Britain Leaves the European Union

BREXIT

BREXIT is what the people of the UK began calling the British Exit. The British Exit is Britain’s exit from the European Union. ”

On June 23, 2016, the people of the United Kingdom voted whether to stay or leave the EU. The EU, or European Union, is a union of European nations that removes trade borders and restrictions. The EU is consistent of 28 nations, but that number will now decrease by one. On June 23 this year, Britain voted upon its exit, BREXIT. The decision passed and BREXIT was instated.

What exactly is BREXIT? BREXIT is what the people of the UK began calling the British Exit. The British Exit is Britain’s exit from the European Union. This decision was brought on by English politicians telling their supporters that the EU was robbing them of thousands of pounds. This statement is only half true; the EU does take money from its members, but it pays them, as well. During the time before BREXIT passed, politicians of Britain’s Conservative party began spreading fear based on immigrants. This further compelled British citizens to vote BREXIT in order to have stricter immigration parameters. When BREXIT was passed, it caused the then Prime Minister of the UK, David Cameron, to resign. Britain’s exit has caused the English Pound to drastically decrease in value. This loss of value in a single currency has affected countries all around the world including the United States.

BREXIT was just the beginning; now Britain’s government has to announce its official decision to leave the EU. When it does, Britain and the EU will have a two year long negotiation of parameters for exit. They will decide the trade, and entrance policies between Britain and Europe. Britain’s exit is a very important event that will continue to affect countries worldwide.
