Should Teachers Have Guns?

In the past year or so, many school shootings have been happening. As a result, people to want teachers to have guns. Even President Trump thinks so! “These people are cowards. They’re not going to walk into a school if 20% of the teachers have guns — it may be 10% or may be 40%. And what I’d recommend doing is the people that do carry, we give them a bonus. We give them a little bit of a bonus,” Donald trump said. “I mean, I don’t want to have a hundred guards with rifles standing all over the school. You do a concealed carry permit. This would be a major deterrent, because these people are inherently cowards,” President Trump also said through Twitter.
I believe that teachers should be able to bring guns for defense and defense only. But I feel in that case, the school districts should do more background checks. If a teacher all of the sudden had a nervous breakdown and went crazy, or had a rare mental disorder, things could be bad.
In the act of a shooting, teachers could defend students, leading to reduced death rates. However, teachers should not be forced to bring a gun, which could feel like a huge responsibility, but be able to bring one if they would like.
I think that school teachers should be able to bring a gun to if they would like. People might argue that all teachers should be given a gun, but if a teacher is uncomfortable around guns, they might not be able to use it. But they should only be able to use it for defense of students and other teachers and only defense. No other purposes should be allowed. But if a teacher would like to bring a gun they would need another background check, a special license, and should be trained how to use it correctly.
